UNC's budget hit hard by legislative cuts

UNC ranks fifth best public university for 11th straight year

Rankings
Carolina ranks fifth among the nation’s best public universities for the 11th consecutive year, according to “U.S. News & World Report” magazine.

Carnegie Corporation's Susan King named School of Journalism dean

Susan King, vice president for external affairs for Carnegie Corporation of New York, will be recommended to become the next dean of the UNC School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

Chancellor Holden Thorp and Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Bruce Carney selected King following a national search. The appointment, effective Jan. 1, 2012, remains subject to final approval by the UNC Board of Trustees. King also would hold the title John Thomas Kerr Distinguished Professor in recognition of career accomplishments to date. Read more...

Karol Kain Gray recommended as vice chancellor for finance and administration

Karol Kain Gray, vice president for finance and administration at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, N.Y., has been recommended to become the new vice chancellor for finance and administration at UNC.

Chancellor Holden Thorp selected Gray for the position with an effective date of Dec. 1, 2011. The appointment is pending final approval by the University’s Board of Trustees at their September meeting. Gray would succeed Richard Mann, who announced his retirement this year but agreed to stay on until his replacement was named. Read more...
